Small pyrotechnic charge for localized effects — burns for seconds and produces a limited smoke trail, such as from a prop or a weapon.
The smoke cookie is the little sister of the smoke bomb: a charge that burns for a few seconds and produces a limited amount of smoke. It is used where smoke is intended to originate at a specific point, not in the entire room.
Typical Uses
- Smoke from damaged equipment, an electrical outlet, an engine.
- Small smoldering fires in the frame.
- A plume of smoke following an impact.
Practical Considerations
Because it is installed hidden, it must be set and ignited by the effects department – not by the props department, even if it is placed within a prop. The short burn time is the advantage: the effect is over in seconds, and the set is clear again. A new charge is needed for repetition.
