Rain Cover refers to two things, depending on the size of the problem: physical protection for the camera, lights, and crew — and a contingency plan when shooting outdoors is no longer possible.
The Physical Part
- Rain cover for the camera, umbrellas for lenses and monitors.
- Tents or tarpaulins over equipment and the video village.
- Rain protection for lights and elevated cable runs — water and electricity are the real reason why work slows down in the rain.
The Planning Part
If rain in the shot doesn't work, no protection helps. That's when the Weather Cover comes into play: a prepared interior location. The difference between a production that loses a day due to rain and one that loses no time is precisely this preparation.
