Location Department

Murnau AI illustration
location scout location assistant location manager

The department responsible for finding, negotiating, permitting, and managing shoot locations from initial scout photos through wrap handover.

The Location Department procures the space where filming takes place. This is more than just searching: they negotiate contracts, obtain permits, inform residents, organize parking spaces, and hand over the location in the agreed-upon condition at the end.

The Chain

  • Location Scout searches and photographs.
  • Location Manager negotiates the contract and rent, obtains permits, and clarifies requirements.
  • Location Assistant oversees the location on the shooting day.

Why Locations Fail

Rarely due to the image. Mostly due to power, parking, noise protection times, residents, or because the owner underestimated the scope. A location that looks perfect in a photo and has no space for equipment costs half a shooting day.
