Manages the location on shoot day: opens up, briefs the crew, liaises with owners and neighbors, and documents the site's condition before and after filming.
The Location Assistant arrives before the crew and leaves after them. They unlock, direct vehicles, point out restrooms and power outlets, and are the point of contact for anyone living or working there.
The Part That Counts Later
The documentation. Before setup, rooms, floors, walls, and exterior surfaces are photographed; after breakdown, they are photographed again. If a scratch is later claimed, this pair of photos will determine whether the production pays.
In Addition
- Lay down protection — floor protection, edge protection, covers, before the first case arrives.
- Inform residents and remain reachable; most complaints arise because no one rang the doorbell beforehand.
- Trash and cigarette butts. The most common reason a location is no longer available the second time around.
