The rental fee for a location, charged per shoot day, often at reduced rates for load-in/load-out days. Excludes utilities, damage deposits, and insurance.
The Location Fee is the price for usage, and it is rarely a single figure. Typically, it's a daily rate for the shooting day, a reduced rate for setup and teardown, plus additional costs for electricity and cleaning, and often a security deposit.
What Drives the Price
- Lost Business. A restaurant that closes for a shooting day charges for its revenue, not its square footage.
- Owner's Effort — Clearing, presence, personnel.
- Exclusivity. A location that is only available for a few days costs more than one with flexibility.
What to Watch Out For
Ensure that additional costs and damage settlement are included in the same contract as the fee. Separate agreements for cleaning or electricity are the most common source of additional charges after filming concludes.
