The contract between production and property owner covering what may be shot, when, for how long, at what fee, and who is liable for damages.
The Location Agreement governs the use of a location for filming. It is not a form but the point at which it is decided whether a shooting day will take place – without a signed agreement, no setup will occur.
What Must Be Included
- Period – not just the shooting day, but setup and dismantling, often one day before and after.
- Scope – which rooms, which areas, how many people, which vehicles.
- Alterations – what may be moved, painted, or dismantled, and in what condition it will be returned.
- Liability and Insurance – with proof, not with a promise.
- Image Usage Rights – that the filmed location may be shown in the film, unlimited in time and space.
The last point is the most frequently forgotten and the most expensive: a location without image release can become a problem after the film is completed.
