Equipment Rental refers to the process where a production rents equipment for a defined period. This item appears in every budget and is usually the second largest cost after personnel.
How Billing Works
- Daily Rate as the basic unit, but rarely paid in full.
- Weekly Discount — five or six days for the price of three or four is common.
- Prep and Return Days at reduced rates or free.
- Weekends when not shooting, often without charge — negotiable, not a given.
Additional Costs
Insurance, transport, consumables, and damages. Insurance is the item most frequently overlooked: A production is liable for the full value of the rented equipment, and the policy must be in place before pickup, not before the shooting day.
