The complete rigging system for a shot: anchor points, redirects, winches, and harness — engineered and signed off before anyone clips in.
A wire rig is the constructed setup behind wire work. It consists of anchor points, pulleys, ropes, a winch or pull team, and the harness on the performer.
Components
- Anchor Point — Truss, scaffolding, crane, or structural element with proven load capacity.
- Pulley System, which changes the direction of pull and is itself loaded.
- Winch or Block and Tackle, operated electrically or manually.
- Harness worn under the costume, with the exit point in a location not visible to the camera.
Inspection
Before the first use, the rig is loaded with a test load, not the performer. Any change — different angle, different weight, different anchor point — requires a new inspection.
