Heads the transportation department: vehicle fleet, drivers, and trip scheduling. Responsible for ensuring equipment, cast, and crew arrive at the right location on time.
The Transport Captain manages a production's fleet: trucks, trailers, shuttles, vehicles for cast and crew, as well as the drivers. On larger productions, this involves a double-digit number of vehicles with their own dispatch.
Responsibilities
- Vehicle Fleet — Rental, condition, insurance, fueling, repairs.
- Drivers — Scheduling, driving and rest times, driver's license classes.
- Location Changes. When each vehicle departs to arrive before the crew.
- Action Vehicles in conjunction with props and stunts — procurement, registration, preparation.
The Underestimated Aspect
Driving and rest times. These apply independently of the shooting schedule, and a driver who is supposed to transport a trailer to the next location after a long shooting day often simply isn't allowed to.
