Foam impact protection for falls — ranging from thin crash pads to multi-layer stunt mats for drops from greater heights.
The stunt pad absorbs a controlled fall. Its construction and height depend on the drop height, and the calculation is not linear: a fall from four meters requires a multiple of the damping of a fall from two.
Construction Types
- Cushion Pads — flat, for falls from standing height and for rolling.
- Multi-layer Pads, with a soft top layer over a firm core; the core provides braking, the top layer prevents a hard impact.
- Air Bags for great heights — an air cushion with regulated deflation.
On Set
Pads are joined together and secured against slipping; gaps between two pads are the most common cause of injury. The landing area is checked before each take, and the area below and next to it is cleared — including cables, tripods, and cases.
