The camera vehicle that travels alongside and shoots during chase sequences, rigged with a boom arm, remote head, and a dedicated driver integrated into the action.
The pursuit vehicle is the mobile camera platform: a vehicle with a crane arm or boom, a remote-controlled camera head, and space for the operator and focus puller. It travels at the same pace as the principal vehicle, thus becoming part of the stunt itself.
Types
- Camera Car with rigid mounting — simple, fast, limited in movement.
- Russian Arm and comparable crane vehicles: stabilized arm on the roof, camera moves around the principal vehicle.
- Low Loader for dialogue scenes in a moving car — the principal vehicle is towed, and the actors are not driving themselves.
Safety
The driver of the camera vehicle is a stunt driver, not a driver with a camera. Distances, sequence, and abort signals are predetermined; communication is via a dedicated channel used solely for the drive.
