The fire suit is the layer between flame and skin. It consists of several layers of fire-resistant fabric, often Nomex, and is worn under the performance costume—it is never visible, but always felt by the performer.

What the Suit Doesn't Do
It doesn't make you fireproof; it buys time—seconds in which to extinguish the flames. That's why every fire stunt has a maximum duration, a stop word, and an extinguishing team. The heat load inside the suit is also considerable; repetitions require breaks, not just rebuilding.
