A pipe fitted with gas jets that produces a controlled line of flame — adjustable, instantly shut off, and the standard practical fire effect on set.
The fire bar is a pipe with nozzles, connected to a gas supply and regulated by a valve. It produces a row of flames that can be adjusted in height and length and, above all, can be immediately extinguished.
Why not just light something on fire
Because a fire that is lit continues to burn. The fire bar burns as long as gas flows and stops when it no longer flows — this makes it repeatable over twenty takes and controllable in an emergency in one second.
On Set
- Behind or next to the subject, rarely in front — flames in front of the camera overexpose everything behind them.
- Wind direction is part of the planning, not chance.
- Fire watch and extinguishing agents within reach; for larger setups, the fire department on site.
