The Extras Coordinator takes over on the shooting day what the casting department has prepared: they receive, guide through costume and makeup, assign roles, and hand over to the assistant director.
The Daily Routine
- Reception and attendance check against the list.
- Costume and Makeup in groups to ensure efficient throughput.
- Assembly Point — a heated, covered area with seating, as there is a lot of waiting between scenes.
- Handover to Set in the number requested by the 3rd AD.
- Times and Payroll — arrival, breaks, wrap, additional payments.
Why Supervision Matters
Extras are not crew: most are rarely on set and don't know what's happening. Those who inform and care for them will get a group that is still willing to perform on the third take. Those who leave them standing in the rain for six hours will see it in the footage.
