The dresser assists with putting on the wardrobe. For modern clothing, they are rarely needed; for historical costumes, corsets, uniforms with back closures, or armor pieces, a second person is essential.
When they are indispensable
- Historical wardrobe — Lacing, hooks, layers that need to be put on in a specific order.
- Quick changes within seconds, prepared and rehearsed.
- Costumes with technology — wireless microphones, cabling, rigging harnesses under the fabric.
On Set
This role works closely with sound and stunts: where a transmitter sits or a harness is placed is decided during dressing – and cannot be changed afterward without reopening the costume.
