The Costume Maker produces what cannot be bought: historical wardrobes, uniforms, fantasy costumes, anything for which multiple identical copies are needed.
Why Custom-Made Instead of Bought
- It doesn't exist. For most eras and for every invented world.
- Doubles. A costume that tears, gets wet, or bleeds requires three to eight identical copies.
- Movement. A costume in which fighting, riding, or falling occurs is built with freedom of movement and concealed reinforcements.
- Stunt doubles need the same costume in a different size.
Lead Time
The point where productions miscalculate. Cutting, pattern making, fitting, alterations, manufacturing — for elaborate costumes, these take weeks, and they are completed before the first shooting day, not alongside it.
