The truck where the camera department transports and works with their gear between locations — shelving for lenses, battery charging stations, a work surface, and, on film shoots, a darkroom.
The camera truck is not a means of transport, but a mobile workshop. It is located at the base camp and is where the department actually works between takes: lenses are changed and checked, batteries are charged, cards are backed up, and equipment is cleaned.
What's inside
- Compartmentalized shelves for lens cases, filters, matte boxes, and accessories — built so that each item has its designated place. The designated place is key: what's missing after shooting wraps is only noticed when a compartment is empty.
- Charging stations and power via generator or mains connection.
- A workbench for prep, cleaning, and collimation.
- On film shoots, a darkroom for loading magazines — light-tight, with glove ports, and unsuitable for data management because no one can see a monitor there.
On digital productions, the darkroom has usually given way to a DIT station: monitor, computer, backup RAID. The rest remains the same.
