Umbrella term for a rental house specializing in cinema cameras, lenses, and accessories, with in-house prep bays, technicians, and service. Unlike general equipment rental, a camera house maintains and calibrates its own gear.
Camera House is not a company name, but a category: the rental facility where a production rents cameras, lenses, and accessories. The difference from a pure equipment rental company lies in the surrounding service.
What it includes
- Prep rooms. Workspaces where the camera department sets up and tests equipment before shooting — with collimator, projection screen, and tools.
- In-house workshop. Lenses are measured, adjusted, and maintained; larger houses modify vintage lenses and fabricate their own parts.
- Technicians on call. If something fails on a shooting day, availability determines whether the day can be saved.
- On-site replacement. A house with a deep inventory can swap a defective lens on the same day.
For budgeting, this means the daily rate is not the benchmark. A cheaper offer without a prep room and without a workshop shifts work and risk onto the production.
