Technician specializing in remote camera heads: assembles and calibrates the head, then operates remote controls for pan, tilt, and roll.
The Remote Head Tech is responsible for the remote-controlled camera head — the stabilized mount used to move the camera when an operator cannot be present: on a crane, a vehicle, a cable camera, or in confined spaces.
What the Position Entails
- Setup and Balancing. A head that is not precisely balanced will jerk with every change in direction.
- Calibration of axes, end stops, and speeds.
- Remote Control — signal paths, latency, range. For wireless connections, latency is the main issue.
- Coordination with the crane operator, camera operator, and focus puller, all of whom are working towards the same movement.
Why It's a Separate Position
Because operating the head and being responsible for its technology cannot be the same person when speed is essential. The operator guides the camera; the technician ensures it does what the operator inputs.
