The Laowa Nanomorph 50-100mm T2.9 is a modern 1.5× anamorphic zoom for Super 35 sensors, released in 2024. Laowa positions the Nanomorph series as a compact entry into anamorphic zooming – aimed at indie productions that cannot afford a set of prime anamorphics.

3. Creative Use

The 1.5× squeeze does not deliver a classic 2× scope look, but it provides visibly stretched bokeh ovals and blue streak flares with average intensity – useful when a subtle anamorphic look is desired without dominating the edit. The slight pincushion distortion is not a flaw but a recognizable characteristic of this series; it can be corrected in post, or some choose to leave it. The lens is suitable for documentaries, low-budget features, or music videos seeking an anamorphic image feel on a limited budget. The Nanomorph series is sporadically available in German rental houses, but smaller productions more frequently purchase the lens directly.
